View available COAsSemax is an analogue of a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). A rat study examined its binding to basal-forebrain cell membranes and its relationship to brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein involved in neuronal signalling. Researchers observed specific, reversible binding and an increase in BDNF protein in the basal forebrain, but not the cerebellum, under the tested conditions. These regional biochemical findings help frame mechanistic research questions. They do not establish improved memory, attention or neurological recovery in people, and they do not validate the material in a catalogue vial.
