UNDERSTAND THE COMPOUND

What is Tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin research examines the relationship between growth hormone signalling, abdominal adipose tissue and liver fat. A randomised study in adults with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation measured visceral and hepatic fat alongside metabolic outcomes. A later multicentre trial focused on people with HIV and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, using liver fat and histology assessments. These are studies in selected clinical populations, with specific formulations and monitoring. They provide context for endocrine research, but cannot be extended to general weight management, healthy volunteers or the identity, purity and performance of a separately supplied research material.

Research context

  • Visceral fat in HIV-associated fat accumulation
  • Liver fat in people with HIV
  • Glucose and metabolic measurements

Tesamorelin, visceral fat and liver fat in HIV · 2014

A placebo-controlled study in adults with HIV-associated abdominal fat accumulation measured visceral and liver fat. It reported reductions in these study endpoints; the authors described the work as preliminary and noted uncertainty about long-term clinical importance.
